Transferable Skills
This graph represents skills I have enhanced and practiced throughout my work, school, and volunteer experiences.
Communication
In every one of my experiences, effective communication skills have been an asset. I have practiced this skill in one-on-one interactions with clients, building rapport, and providing customer service. In giving presentations, as a coach, an instructor, and as a shift manager and trainer, I have practiced speaking to groups. I have learned to communicate in a way that is engaging and motivational.
Problem Solving
My problem-solving skills are enhanced by my ability to think creatively about solutions, and by my positive attitude. In working with people I have encountered situations of conflict and practiced taking action with integrity, honesty, and maturity. In independent settings, I have learned to work through problems using critical thinking while in team situations I look to collaborate and be open-minded to the ideas of others.
Teamwork, Cooperation, and Leadership
I have played team sports for as long as I can remember and in my teenage years, I had the opportunity to lead some of my teams as the captain. These experiences in sports provided the groundwork for later positions as a manager and a rugby coach. In a leadership role, I always seek to bring out the strengths in each individual to make for a stronger collective. I believe the role of a leader is to inspire each member to be their best and to grow. I know that leadership means to listen and really hear each member. As a team member, I work to collaborate and support others and fulfill my role effectively.
Organization and Planning
As a coach and a manager, it has been very important to plan ahead and prepare for changing circumstances. I think it is important to be prepared in order to be dynamic and ready for a range of outcomes and obstacles. As someone who loves outdoor adventure, I know that planning and preparation are key in achieving safe and successful outcomes.
Working Independently
As a student, farmworker, and dog walker I have practiced being independently motivated and to use critical thinking to work through obstacles. I have practiced managing my time effectively and being responsible for myself and my actions.
